Poinsettia

Sketchbook - Poinsettia
"Poinsettias (Euphorbia pulcherrima), members of the diverse spurge or Euphorbiaceae family, have become a modern-day symbol of the holiday season in many countries around the world. Indeed, they are also known as Christmas Stars. Their scientific name, which translates as "the most beautiful euphorbia," is very appropriate." More info

Kris Moose

Sketchbook - Kris Moose
I decorate very little for Christmas. I don't put a tree. I do however have a couple stuffed toys that I bring out every year. Of course they are high off the floor, so the dogs are not temped to think they are toys for them. 5am and can't sleep, they become my subject matter.

Mac and Buddy

Sketchbook Pages - Mac and Buddy
We got a new dog at the beginning of September. Buddy is a beautiful six year old Golden Retriever, whose owner couldn't look after him any more. Mac, our eight year old chocolate lab mix rescue dog and Buddy get along great! So now, on evenings when I  just want to draw something I now have 2 models. By about 7pm they are usually both sound asleep on the couch.

Sketchbooks

I have a shelf of sketchbooks. Some from the early 1980's, but most are from about 2001 to now. They range in size from 4.5 x 4.5 inches to 14 x 17 inches. Some are filled with pencil sketches, others are ink and watercolour. I have tried different brands, hard cover, soft cover, spiral bound. Size and brand depends on season, of current project or sometimes just which sketchbook is on sale. My preference is hardcover which withstands constant use over the time it takes to fill one. Sometimes I have more than one going at a time. Small ones fit in my golf bag and are easy to take on location and large hard cover ones for everything else.

Commission - Dairy Dip

Ink & Graphite, 5 x 8 inches, ©2015
This building is not really historic, but the Dairy Dip and Pizza Place in Grand Bend has been a family tradition since 1960. The building is very colourful and busy, characteristic of the shops on the strip in Grand Bend. The photo reference was taken at unique angles, so it was challenge. Google street view was a great tool to get more visual information in order to complete the illustration.

Commission - Old South

Cheryl Radford, McKenzie Ave.
Ink & Watercolour, 6 x 4 inches, ©2015
The big old tree in front of this home on McKenzie Ave is so beautiful, capturing the character and atmosphere of London's thriving, unique and historic Old South district.  Image size approx 6” x 4” and framed 8” x 10”.

On another note, I just read an article "Crediting your artwork" on The Art Biz Blog by Alyson Stanfield. It is important to do give yourself credit and to be consistent with the format of the credit. I have started now (and I have also fixed a couple of my images from recent posts) and will continue with this format in the future.
