Glencairn

Sketchbook ~ Glencairn (Scotch Block)
Sketchbook ~ Glencairn (Leithfield)
Clublink Glencairn Quote: "It’s been said that Glencairn is the closest you’ll come to Scotland without crossing the Atlantic. From the moment you pass the stone gates and wind your way between rock fences to the majestic multi-turreted clubhouse, you will feel like you just arrived at a Scottish links." That describes the course exactly. Most challenging are the pot bunkers, if you stay away from them, its a pretty easy course. This round, only in pot bunkers twice, so this was my best round/score at Glencairn!

Glencairn

On Wednesday, I played Glencairn Golf Club. Located near Milton, this course is said to be "the closest you can come without crossing the Atlantic". This course was designed by Thomas McBroom, opened in 2005 and has 27 holes. We played Leithfeild and Speyside nines. You never want to get in those pot bunkers! This was sketched whiles playing and coloured when I got home.

The Square Silo

GH11 The Square Silo
Silos in the late 1880’s were built square, but farmers discovered that air seeped into the corners, causing the silage to spoil. Round silos eliminated air pockets, so square silos were rarely built after 1900. This silo is located on a golf course near Halton Hills, just west of Toronto, on Leithfield No. 4 at Glencairn Golf Course, designed by Thomas McBroom. This course is framed with golden fescue, rock fences, narrow streams (burns), dozens of the deep dreaded pot bunkers and one square silo. The course is described as “The closest you will come to Scotland, without crossing the Atlantic.”

Glen Cairn

Holiday Monday golf at Glencairn Golf Club. near Halton Hills. This is hole no. 1, sketched while we waiting to tee off. Love this course... from the stone walls, burns and bridges to the " I hate" those sod-walled pot bunkers. On hole number 2, I missed the green by inches and ended up in the pot bunker right in front, three strokes and I was still in trap, a drop in the sandtrap, next shot right over the green. Managed to stay out of bunkers after that. So 17 good holes and 1 bad.

Golf Season in Ontario

Golf Season in Ontario has started. Greenhills was under water due to flooding from Dingman Creek, so off to Glen Cairn we went on Sunday. The first nine was a little slow, so I got 2 sketches done. Second nine we caught up to people on the 6th hole, so one sketch on back. I have had this small sketch book (7"x 5") in my golf bag for a couple of years now. In the past I have only sketched a couple of times each season. I wonder if I can do at least one sketch each time I play this year....

Glen Cairn No 7

Last Sunday, we went to play Glencairn Golf Course, near Halton Hills. This scottish style course complete with stone walls, burns, bridges, sod walled pot bunkers and fescue, is the course were I got my hole in one 2 years ago. This is hole number 7 on Scotch Block, a short downhill par three over a field of fescue. I like this course because of the fescue, golden in colour, a nice contrast to all the green on golf courses. Fescue is beautiful.... not to play in, but to look at. I didn't have a problem with the fescue, but I did have a couple of issues with the pot bunkers.
