Desert golf vacation in Arizona! Such unique landscape: desert, cactus, mountains, fairways and greens. Played 6 courses in 6 days. This was Wildfire Golf Course, Arnold Palmer Signature Course. Some drawn on location and some drawn from images taken with IPAD. Not quite finishing adding the watercolour yet. 108 holes is allot of sketching!

Stayed within a block of Old Scottsdale, so were able visit Scottsdale's Museum of the West and see the exhibition: The Taos Society of Artists (They shared a love of the regional location, local color and local people, especially the Hispanic and Pueblo Native American communities. Their paintings were characterized by dramatic landscapes, brilliant lighting, indigenous peoples and modernist techniques. The group’s groundbreaking artworks gave rise to a major school of American painting.)

GH13 We-Ko-Pa, Saguaro

After watching a little of the Champions tour in Scottsdale, Arizona last weekend, I was inspired and reviewed my photos from our golf trip to Arizona earlier this past spring. My favourite course was We-Ko-Pa, Saguaro Course, designed by Bill Coore and Ben Crenshaw. This course was like no other that I have ever played. We were in the middle of a desert, with lush green fairways, century old cactus and surrounded by mountains… not a house, townhome or condo to be seen, truly in the middle of the desert.

We played six rounds of golf while in Arizona this past week, with my favourite being We-Ko-Pa Golf Club, Saguaro Course on the last day. From sketchbook, started with fast sketch on location finished later.
We-Ko-Pa is owned by the Fort McDowell Yavapai Nation and is managed by Scottsdale-based EF Golf and OB Sports. There are no homes, condos or townhomes lining these fairways, just the natural beauty of the desert with views of McDowell Mountains, Red Mountain, Four Peaks and the Superstitions Mountains.
